I am sure you may be waiting to know what happened after the "appetizers" I served to my hubby dearest before leaving with my mother in law. Before that story is unravelled, there was an innocent incident that cemented the bond of this couple further...
All the stress of marriage, all the dishes that we were forced fed by loving relatives, the fast that I had to keep had taken a toll on me... Being on spotlight is great but constant attention in a new environment makes you feel uneasy. Me and my mother in law went to nearby temple and on our way back, few neighbors caught us and invited us in. Now what?
Again snacks and coffee were served. I usually don't drink tea or coffee but I couldn't say anything in this situation. People may take it as offence. With great difficulty I finished my coffee and snacks. I was already feeling out of place and really uneasy in my stomach.
Somehow we managed to leave the place. I held my mother in-law's hand and we walked to our home.
"Are you ok? Your face looks pale". My mother in law asked.
" Mom, after having that coffee I am not feeling good." I replied.
But I think I had underestimated my own health situation. I was feeling pukish. I felt I was going to explode. I ran into bathroom and next that came was a mini flood... Horrible horrible horrible...Extremely painful.
I could hear worried shoutings of my mother in-law and my father in law. But I was in no position to talk or respond. Just continued vomiting. My mother in law kept patting my back and head... she washed my face. My father in law brought me a bottle of water and lemons. I drank water but still puked. After couple of minutes, I felt little better. My mother in law handed me a towel to freshen and clean myself up.
I was shivering from head to toe. My sister in law helped me go back to my bedroom.
"What happened to her?" I could hear my hubby's voice.
" Nothing serious. She was not feeling well and she vomited. Its a good thing. She is resting now and will be better soon. "
I walked to my bedroom and saw my wife resting. She looked so fragile. Couple of hours ago, she was so mischievous and energetic..Her eyes sparkled with full naughty ideas that her mind was cooking... She was so excited to pull prank at me. Now she looks drained. I dont like to see her so pale. She is my girl, my love. I want to see her happy and smiley, full of life....
I sat down next to her and I could see she is shivering a bit. I came closer and kissed her forehead. She looked at me and smiled feebly..
"What happened to my naughty wife?"
" Just little weak from all vomiting"
" From today no more shyness. Eat what you like. Be free around us as we are your family. Don't be like a typical daughter-in-law. Your health is more important. " He was surely upset.
" Ok. Sure. I don't drink coffee and neighbor aunty cajoled me to drink so I couldn't say no to her. "
"Now see who is suffering? Its your poor husband." He smiled.
" So selfish..I am in pain and you think you are suffering.." I made a long face.
" You are suffering physically and I am suffering emotionally seeing you like this."
I smiled at him. He knows how to make me smile always..
" How you feel now? Anything you want to eat?"
" No. Nothing now. Just want to rest. "
" Ok, you rest, I will be outside. " He got up to leave.
I held his palm and stopped him.
" Stay here with me. I am feeling scared. I don't like to be alone when I am sick. "
" Ok dear wife, I will sit here beside you."
"No, lie down next to me, please. "
He smiled and obliged my request. I snuggled up in his chest, kept my legs on him and he hugged me close. It felt good and warm. A feeling of peace swept through me.
" Don't ever leave me alone."
" Where will this poor husband go leaving his loving wife. Don't worry I will always hold you in my arms and keep you safe. "
" I feel so much better now...". I hugged him tightly.
" Now close your eyes and sleep."
I closed my eyes and slept....I love him...I love him alot....
I was not aware how long I had slept but when I woke up, I was still hugged warmly by my hubby dearest. He too had slept. He looked so calm, tiny curve on his lips, totally child like innocence!!!
I will always remember this peaceful look on his face as he slept holding me tight in his arms.
My stomach made a nasty sound...of course I'm hungry. Me and food have a deep bond. I didn't wish to wake my hubby up but it's food.
As I tried to move his arms away from him, he woke up with a start.
" What happened, are you alright?"
" Sorry, I woke you up. But I was hungry. "
"That's good thing. Your stomach is fine now. Great !!! Let's have dinner now".
" You didn't take your dinner?"
" How can I eat when my sweet wife has not eaten anything." He pulled my nose as he said.
"Oh my God, you should take care of your health..Why did you skip? "
" Little above 36 hrs ago, I had made a promise to myself and to you that I will take care of you and be with you in your sickness and health. How can I break that promise? I initially thought to wake you up for dinner but you were in such deep sleep, I didn't feel like waking. That's why I slept next to you too. "
I was speechless. What could I say. He just took my heart away. Other than my parents, noone had ever done anything so selfless for me. Noone. I just hugged him again.
"Ok dear wife, now that we are talking about food, I am hungry too. Can we do the romantic hug after dinner?" he started his jokes.
" Ok dear hubby, let's go."
"Can you heat the food as I set the table? " he asked.
" Sure".
"You know a funny thing? You were deep asleep but if I tried to move, you would move one finger inside my shirt sleeve and hold me. That's why I didn't even change my side all this time." he asked while arranging plates.
" Oh I didn't realize I do that. Usually I sleep alone so I keep my pillows around me. It makes me feel safe, as if someone is around. May be that's why I was holding on to you. Sorry for troubling you." I felt guilty inside.
"No dear, not a problem at all. I am glad you feel safe and happy."
He came close to me, whispering in my ears...
" You are never going to be alone again. Your hubby will be like a leech holding onto you forever. You can't get rid of this leech so easily. " he kissed my cheeks.
" oh god, leech. I hate them..I am phobic to all slimy creatures... Stay away from me... "I joked as well as I pretended to push him.
He pulled me even more closer and...said
" Wife ji, agar Shivji ki kripa huyi toh phul jaisa ek lalla hoga...Kya aap mere lalle ki ma banegi? "
We both burst into laughter...Before I could answer him, the sound of oven indicated food is heated...
